    These twin sculptures welcome residents and visitors to Joyce Kilmer Park and the community events that take place there. Designed and fabricated by the Borat Foundation, the sculptures were then painted by two artists whose styles are familiar from other local murals. As the names imply, these works celebrate the beauty and power of the Latino cultural community that powers events like the Mercado Esperanza. The image of the griffin in particular draws on the Oaxacan-Mexican tradition of “alebrijes,” folk-art sculptures of fantastical creatures.
