This artwork, at the corridor’s central intersection, serves as an identity statement for the Esperanza Neighborhood Project. Neighborhood families, many of whom immigrated from the Oaxaca region of Mexico, engaged with artist Layqa Nuna Yawar, an internationally known graduate of Rutgers, to explore what it means to transmit culture across lands and generations. The title, “La gota rompe la piedra,” is drawn from a Spanish saying that “a drop of water breaks the stone, not by its strength but by its perseverance.”
