    This work of COVID remembrance was the first “street mural” in the neighborhood, painted directly onto the pavement on the street adjacent to War Memorial Park. The design drew inspiration from “tapetes de aserrín,” the traditional sawdust carpets, often featuring brightly colored flora and fauna, that are created and walked upon for ceremonial and religious processions in parts of Mexico and Central America. Images of lilies, marigolds, and doves invite viewers to consider new life and hope in the face of loss.
